2009 MAA President & Council

Michael J Cox has been a licensed architect for 34 years and is the principal of Michael J Cox, Architect, a Brandon firm that has served the western portion of Manitoba since 1979. Michael J Cox obtained his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Manitoba in 1971 and has a passion for architectural excellence. He is dedicated to improving the impact that the profession can have on all our communities, and in particular, Michael has a considerable interest in building the relationship between the architectural profession and the citizens of Manitoba who live and work outside of Winnipeg.
In pursuit of his interest in community building, Michael devotes considerable effort to public service. In addition to sitting as President of the Manitoba Association of Architects, he has recently been appointed to the Board of Governors of Assiniboine Community College, is on the Board of Directors of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and serves as Commodore of the Pelican Yacht Club, a sailing association located at Pelican Lake in southwestern Manitoba.
As a long-time volunteer, Michael has previously served as President of the Kinsmen Club of Brandon, as National Director of International Affairs for the Association of Kinsmen Clubs of Canada, and as President of the Board of Directors of the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba. Michael is also dedicated to sporting life in Manitoba, and has previously served as Vice-President for Sport Development of the Manitoba Sailing Association,

Established in 1914, the Manitoba Association of Architects (MAA) is a self-governing professional association charged under The Architects Act with the registration of architects and with the regulation of the practice of architecture in the Province of Manitoba. The Association regulates the practice of architecture for the protection of the public and the administration of the profession.
