The Reciprocity Agreement of Canadian Architectural Licensing Associations has been in effect since January 1, 1992 and provides for the recognition of credentials of architects who are licensed in one of the provincial associations in Canada. In accordance with the Agreement, applicants
will be granted registered membership in the reciprocating
association, without further examination or interview, if the applicant provides evidence of:

Compliance with Common Admission Standards for Education, Experience and Examination.

Current practice experience as may be required.

Current membership in good standing in the provincial
association from which the applicant is applying.

A written
declaration of detailed knowledge of the relevant legislation, regulations and other standards as required and identified by the
provincial
association.

Common Admission Standards
under The Agreement
Education
- Satisfaction of the
Education requirements defined in the Canadian Education Standard,
as evidenced by certification from the Canadian Architectural Certification Board
(CACB).
Note: CACB certification
is a fundamental requirement of
the Agreement, regardless of
when an individual was
registered.
Individuals registered prior to July 1, 1976 by a provincial association are eligible for certification
under a grandfathering
clause. Those who have not previously applied for certification under the grandfathering
clause should contact the MAA office for
the required application form and confirmation letter.
Applicants
have to go through the
certification process one time
only.
Experience
- Satisfaction of current
Internship in Architecture
Program (IAP) Experience requirements,
or
the Experience requirement of the admitting provincial
association of the Intern prior to the adoption of the
IAP, or The Intern Development Program,
administered by the AIA and NCARB in the USA.
- Evidence of current experience in the practice of architecture as required by the provincial
association granting admission.
