Overview:
Part 1 focuses on Indigenous ways of looking at a place, ground, history, people, and other living beings.

  • Through an Indigenous lens, there will be Discussion around the opportunities for architects to transition to ecological-focused design approaches.
  • The Discussion will review the mutual benefits that emerge by incorporating Indigenous knowledge into evidence-based approaches to climate change.
  • We will examine the current design process, and includes:
    • Ways to restructuring how we approach design.
    • How can practice go beyond meeting the minimum marks of "sustainability."
    • Is sustainability the correct term to use?
    • Consider how buildings influence everything around us and how they fit into the Indigenous Term "all our relations."

This seminar will feature guest speakers Dr. Patrick Stewart, Wanda Dalla Costa, and Dr. David Fortin with a panel discussion to follow moderated by Shawn Bailey.
