THE PROJECT

Millennium Library Park is a vibrant urban oasis in the heart of Winnipeg. This public space brings together Manitobans and visitors from all walks of life. The park weaves together a prairie garden, an urban wetland, a river-bottom grove, a reading commons and a sun drenched lawn. Designed to be fun, flexible, and safe, the park is a public commons, a literary garden and an environmental classroom in every season.

JURY COMMENTS

The Millennium Library Park is composed of finely orchestrated series of urban landscape spaces that provide a range of visual and sensory experiences. Together, these spaces, along with significant public art form a rich tapestry that can be visually accessed from the library reading areas and the surrounding office buildings. The green roof of the parkade below, with its sophisticated water management system, supports the idea that landscape can – and should – play a more significant role in ‘greening’ our cities.
