THE PROJECT
youCUBE explores the potential for density and affordability on a narrow urban lot. Located on the north end of Waterfront Drive in Winnipeg, the project occupies an unremarkable site with limited visibility of the nearby river and neglected, industrial surroundings. This project challenges conventional multi-family housing design with a modular and more affordable configuration of individual dwellings to include extensive outdoor space and brilliant architectural interiors.
JURY COMMENTS
The overall size and arrangement of youCube suggest a village cluster and speaks of community. The exterior spaces are artfully composed and play off the buildings elegantly. This project is quite spectacular for its modest ambitions. The units themselves offer exciting living arrangements in small spaces.
