Manitoba Association of Architects Announces Appointment of New Executive Director

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba Association of Architects (MAA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Martin Lussier as its new Executive Director. Mr. Lussier's appointment follows a lengthy search process initiated by the MAA's governing Council in response to the pending retirement of Judy Pestrak, who has provided steady leadership at the MAA for over 40 years.

Mr. Lussier brings substantial experience in professional regulation, policy, governance, and public affairs. Most recently, he served in the role of Manager, Communications and Public Engagement at the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM), where he provided strategic leadership as a primary spokesperson, subject matter expert and relationship builder through a period of substantial change in the provincial health system. As a leader in professional regulation and public relations, Mr. Lussier has presented at national conferences and workshops and has supported numerous community organizations as a board member and volunteer.

"We are excited to have been able to identify a candidate with Martin's strategic vision, depth of knowledge and experience in professional regulation," said Melissa McAlister, MAA Council President. "We look forward to working with him as we move forward in service of the MAA's public interest mandate."

The MAA would also like thank Ms. Pestrak for her years of dedicated service to the Association and the role she played in positioning the MAA as a leader on the national stage.

"Judy's tireless work ethic and steadfast commitment to the work of the Association have been critical to its success over the past four decades," said Jeff Moroz, First Vice-President. "Her leadership has helped promote public safety as well as ensure the ongoing recognition of architects' scope of practice, strengthenfairness legislation, and redefine limitations legislation, to name but a few accomplishments. We extend our sincere gratitude and best wishes as she moves into retirement."

The Manitoba Association of Architects is the professional regulatory body governing the practice of architecture in the Manitoba. In fulfilling its mandate, the MAA serves to protect the public interest and advance the profession of architecture.
