Practice Committee: MAA Announces Move to Digital Signatures

MAA Announces Move to Digital Signatures

Based on the fairly extensive level of review and investigation, that resulted in a series of recommendations by the MAA's Practice Committee earlier this year, the MAA Council has approved the implementation of a digital signature system (through Notarius), to replace the currently approved electronic signature system.

This move will not only align the MAA with 40 other Canadian professional associations (including 5 other architectural associations, 10 professional engineering associations and 5 landscape architect associations), but will also align with the City of Winnipeg's recent move towards an on-line submission system for permits.

In addition to the benefits that the MAA will derive, in its regulatory role, some of the more obvious benefits to the membership include:

  • Efficiency and convenience of sealing documents;
  • Improved and membership-wide standardized digital signature security;
  • Document versions are preserved after each signing; and
  • Efficiency in multi-practice document/drawing sealing/signing.

Attached is a document which outlines some of the basic information that the membership should be aware of. Further information, including the discounted sign-up rates that will be made available for the initial 90 period and a specific MAA webinar, will be rolled out in the coming weeks ahead (and thereafter posted on the MAA's website).
